Past and present collide

“Fuck! Why does God hate me so much?” René groaned and pulled Nico’s pillow over her head to block out the too-bright light in the room. Her head felt like one big, open, throbbing wound.

Meanwhile, Nico rummaged through his clothes after his morning workout. Last night’s activities had no lasting effects on him. She didn’t think she could hate him until that moment.

A cool shadow fell over her, and the pillow was ripped from her hands. She glared up at the menace, the effect ruined by her need to squint as her eyes adjusted to the light.

“We’re meeting everyone for breakfast, remember?”

René snatched the pillow back, rolled to her side, clutching it like the teddy bear replacement it was. A teddy bear with Nico’s delicious scent. “I don’t wanna.”

The bed depressed behind her back. She heard the smile in his voice when he said, “Then you won’t mind this sweaty man joining you until you are.” As his sweat-slicked chest connected with her back and his tacky arm slid around her waist, she stood corrected.

What she felt now was nothing less than hate. Before it was intense dislike. Workout sweat on his perfect body when she couldn’t take advantage of him was just criminal. She flung his arm away and stomped out of bed. As she muttered about the unfairness of everything, hands offering her water and pills for her headache stopped her.

Had she said she hated Nico?

Temporary insanity induced by overindulgence was a thing.

“Thank you.” She gratefully swallowed her pills and water, tingling from the fact that her man loved taking care of her.

Panic slowly crept up her spine on the verge of overtaking her. The promotion she had silently given Nico had been thoughtless. Despite filling her heart with dreams, they’d never discussed what they were to each other now.

A kiss to her forehead halted her thoughts from progressing further. She stood still watching Nico’s fine ass head to the outdoor shower. The press of his lips lingered, her heart thudded. Although it didn’t heal the real headache she had, somehow the pain dulled to a more manageable ache.

Water slapping against skin reminded her of Nico’s destination. Surely if a kiss could dampen pain, his other talents could eradicate all her ailments. She followed the sound of water spattering and paused to enjoy the view of the naked, glistening man surrounded by luscious foliage.

She wanted to be the Eve to his Adam, hedonistic and uncaring of the world outside this paradise. The moment her arm moved to divest herself of her shirt, Nico turned. He speared her with his gaze. Not pausing until she stood completely naked in front of him, she reveled in his response.

Words were unnecessary. Heat filled his eyes and his fast-growing erection told her he more than liked what he saw.

“If memory serves, my delivery man is late,” René said.

“I’m here now.”

“Yes. You. Are. And with my package no less.”

René stepped into the bath. Nico made room under the overhead shower that he stood well above, bent, and captured her mouth with a kiss.
